Spring Bank Holiday engineering works

Between Saturday 29 – Monday 31 May, there will be changes to Avanti West Coast services on all routes – with journeys taking longer and some involving a rail replacement service.

  • From 12pm Saturday 29 May until 12pm Monday 31 May, trains will not call at Warrington Bank Quay
  • On Sunday 30 May, there will be no Avanti West Coast trains north of Lancaster
  • On Sunday 30 May until 12.15pm Monday 31 May, trains will be unable to call at Runcorn and Liverpool

Here’s a summary of Avanti West Coast services by destination:

Services to/from Glasgow/Edinburgh (29 May)  

From 12pm on Saturday 29 May, Avanti West Coast will operate one train per hour in each direction between London Euston and Carlisle, diverted via Manchester, extending journey times and unable to call at Warrington Bank Quay.

Rail replacement services will operate in both directions between, extending journey times:

  • Crewe – Warrington Bank Quay – Wigan North Western (from 12pm)
  • Crewe – Preston (from 12pm)
  • Carlisle – Glasgow Central
  • Carlisle – Lockerbie – Motherwell – Glasgow
  • Carlisle – Lockerbie – Edinburgh

Services to/from Glasgow/Edinburgh (30 May)

On Sunday 30 May, Avanti West Coast will operate one train per hour in each direction between London Euston and Lancaster, diverted via Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester, extending journey times and unable to call at Warrington Bank Quay.

Rail replacement services will operate in both directions between, extending journey times:

  • Crewe – Warrington Bank Quay – Wigan North Western
  • Crewe – Preston
  • Lancaster – Carlisle
  • Carlisle – Glasgow Central
  • Carlisle – Lockerbie – Motherwell – Glasgow
  • Carlisle – Lockerbie – Edinburgh

From 12pm, Avanti West Coast will operate two trains per hour in each direction between London Euston and Carlisle.  

Rail replacement services will operate in both directions between, extending journey times:

  • Crewe – Warrington Bank Quay – Wigan North Western (until 12pm)
  • Crewe – Preston (until 12pm)
  • Carlisle – Glasgow Central
  • Carlisle – Lockerbie – Motherwell – Glasgow
  • Carlisle – Lockerbie – Edinburgh

    A limited rail service will operate between Carlisle and Glasgow Central via Dumfries on Saturday 29 and Monday 31 May only.

    Services to/from Birmingham

    On Saturday 29 and Monday 31 May, Avanti West Coast will operate two trains per hour between London Euston and Birmingham New Street for most of the day.

    On Sunday 30 May, Avanti West Coast will operate one train per hour between London Euston and Birmingham New Street.

    Services to/from Manchester  

    Between Saturday 29 – Monday 31 May, Avanti West Coast will operate two trains per hour in each direction between London Euston and Manchester Piccadilly for most of the day.

    Services to/from Liverpool

    On Sunday 30 May until 12.15pm Monday 31 May, Avanti West Coast trains will operate between London Euston and Crewe, diverted via Stoke-on-Trent, extending journey times.  

    Rail replacement services will operate in both directions all day Sunday 30 May until 12.15pm Monday 31 May, extending journey times:

  • Crewe – Runcorn – Liverpool*

*Please note rail replacement services will depart/terminate Liverpool at Commutation Row

Services to/from North Wales

Between Saturday 29 – Monday 31 May, Avanti West Coast will operate a limited service between Crewe and Holyhead.
